Why do we do what we do?
As a young, Caribbean ballplayer, I thought that to play professional baseball, I would have to wait for the big moment to maybe get signed by a Major League franchise. The common myth at the time was this was the only path to the Major Leagues.
Unfortunately, this myth persists to some degree in many islands, and some have argued that those like me who have gotten the opportunity either got lucky or were blessed to be signed by a professional franchise.
Today I have learned that becoming a professional baseball player can take many paths, and one of the main avenues is through college or university. I say to you, the student, do not limit yourself when you can use many other ways to accomplish that dream.
This path is not only there for American athletes; it’s open to one and all. Colleges and universities are prepared to accept not just players of baseball but every sport, and we at the Piper Davis Baseball Group United Academy of St. Maarten and RSCBI want to open the door to one and all.
